Special Educator

Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx – NYC

E. Sholom, Inc. is currently looking for a dedicated Special Educator to join our New York City team. As a Special Education provider in NYC EIP, you can work in your borough of choice as we have positions available in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx. Special Education Teachers in our Early Intervention (birth to 3 years old) program will implement various techniques to provide development of cognitive, communication, social and emotional, adaptive, fine and gross motor skills, within home, school, and other community settings. Special Education teachers will collaborate with other disciplines in order to develop and address goals and outcomes based on each child’s Individualized Family Service Plan. This includes providing families with information, coaching, and educating families on different intervention strategies to help foster each child and carry-over skills in daily home and community routines. Each teacher will be responsible to maintain appropriate documentation and collection of data on interventions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one instruction to children in the Early Intervention program.
  • Educate family members and caregivers on different intervention strategies to facilitate active involvement and carry-over.
  • Perform services in diverse settings such as patient homes, family day care homes, daycare centers, and/or other community settings.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided; submit evaluations and progress reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence to program compliance and service authorizations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding children and families (in accordance with HIPAA and State & Federal regulations), and submit records to agency within established deadlines.

Special Educator Requirements:

  • Must have a passion for working with children and families.
  • Students with Disabilities Birth-2 Initial or Professional certification OR Permanent Special Education certificate OR Permanent TSHH certificate OR TSLD Initial or Professional certification
  • Bilingual in Bengali, Spanish, Russian, Urdu, Uzbek, and other languages is a plus.
  • Experience working with children under age 5.
  • Special Educators must be self-motivated, team players, and exercise patience/professionalism

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel to and from assigned cases including but not limited to driving a personal vehicle, walking, and/or use of public transportation such as a bus or train.
  • The ability to climb and descend staircases.
  • The ability to lift 10 pounds regularly.
  • The ability to sit on the floor, kneel, and/ or crawl for extended periods.

Compensation depends on experience and will be discussed during the interview process.
